Family in 2020
Today is my son’s first Father’s Day. His young family has many years in front of them, God willing. I look back and I know the great memories, the challenges, frustrations, and successes for a family. My first grand daughter is a success for my wife and I, and for our son and his beautiful new wife.
Families come in many shapes, sizes and colors. They ALL deserve respect. In my life I have found nothing more important than family. I realize that’s not true for everyone, however. People have problems which affect others. Some problems are out of our control and will occur no matter what we do.
What I have learned, and it has been hard, is that you handle the problems you can control. You avoid the problems you don’t need. You behave well and respect the people in your family trying to do the same. Things will work out well, in time. What carries through more than anything… is the importance of family.
What Families don’t Need
Families don’t need the government to make things worse. Yes, this is my rant but it is my rant in favor of families. Families don’t need interference; they need help. It is extremely difficult to make enough income to support a family, in a home, with school, with clean clothes, and healthy food. Healthcare must be be affordable for everyone. The government needs to offer an affordable option for people with non-career jobs. Corporations, who make billions on the backs of poor and middle class people, need to respect families and pay people a living wage. Employers also need to make it possible for people to save for their retirement.
If we’re all living on the edge (as we have found with Coronavirus), living month to month, hand to mouth, we will not make it. If people are dis-respected by our government and by the companies where we work, we will not make it. If people are mis-treated (immigrants for example), we have lost the point of a meaningful life, which is to be our best. Immigrants pay taxes and social security. By sending them away we deny the heritage of this great country, and we make the U.S. financially insolvent. That’s just stupid.
If problems that families cannot control are piled onto the problems we are trying to control, then America is going to break. America can be a prosperous nation FOR EVERYONE; we have lots of room and lots of food. The rich have to take a little less and make it possible for others to make a little more. We, the working class families, are the golden goose.
Respect matters. Everyone needs to make an equal wage for an equal job. Healthcare is a human right. Respect is a human right. Coronavirus is killing us, but it is being made a political tool. That’s just stupid. Voting in America is being suppressed in Georgia and Kentucky and other states where blacks are at extreme disadvantage. Black lives matter. Women matter. We are mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers. Our plight in life can change but only if we can vote our way out of the old controlling ways.
No matter how hard, go Vote. No matter how hard, respect people. No matter how hard, hold your family close. In time, things will be better.
